Spider Farmer SF-4000W LED Grow Light Reviews-2020

Spider Farmer SF4000 LED Grow Light 1000W HID Replacement
The SF-4000 is the largest size and covers a 4x4 ft area. You can fit 3-4 cannabis plants in a 4x4 foot space depending on size of the plants.
Design:
Below is the SF-2000 that I bought. Right out of the box this light looks and feels like it’s worth its weight. The metal frame is very sturdy. I turned the light on and I was almost blinded. The picture doesn’t do it justice because my camera dims the image when it’s too bright.

Mine came with a handy measuring tape so you can accurately measure the distance between your light and your plants. It also comes with a hanging kit.
Design
Unlike many other LED grow lights, the Spider Farmer sf-4000W LED grow light comes with a fan less design. The reason why the lights do not need cooling fans is that they come with design that dissipates heat efficiently.
This however does not mean you cannot use space fans with the led grow light especially during the summer when the environment is too harsh. The Spider Farmer generates enough heat that helps to maintain warm temperatures in the grow tent.
Energy efficiency
Compared to traditional LED grow lights, quantum board LED grow lights have a higher level of energy efficiency. One of the main reasons why they are energy efficient is because they lack cooling fans, which come with a high usage of power.
The current quantum lights also use the newest versions of diodes that do not consume as much energy as the traditional diodes. With a consumption of 450 watts of electricity, the Spider Farmer sf-4000 watt LED grow light also comes with better micromoles/joule as compared to the grow lights in the market.
Spectrum
Let’s begin with the spectrum. For years we heard that purple LED light is best, but that turned out to be false. Read all about why grow lights are purple.
Today, more and more consumers are realizing that full-spectrum white light is better than just red and blue. And white light with additional red and blue is even better.

With the increase in demand for white LEDs, more manufacturers have begun making them. They come in two forms: fixtures that use COB LEDs and fixtures that use a large number of smaller diodes.
I have written about the COB grow lights here, so I won’t go into any detail about those in this review. The Spider Farmer lights do not use COBs. They use many smaller diodes.
This makes them very similar to the quantum board LEDs from HLG and the Electric Sky fixtures from the Green Sunshine Company. But Spider Farmer grow lights cost a lot less.
The only lights in the same price range with a similar spectrum are the Mars Hydro TS and SP grow lights. There are some differences in the spectrum, though. And, of course, in the components.
Spider Farmer SF fixtures have a mix of 3000K and 5000K white diodes, with additional 660 nm deep red and 760 nm IR diodes.
Most HLG quantum board lights have only white light and their newer RSpec fixtures add in 660 nm deep red. The Electric Sky lights feature white light with deep red and IR. The Mars SP and TS lights vary. Some have deep red in addition to white, while others have the same plus IR and UV.
So which is best?
If you want UV, go with the Mars Hydro SP lights. They are the only ones that include UV diodes.
But UV is really only useful for the last few weeks of flowering , so I always say it makes more sense to just get fluorescent UV tubes if you want to add ultraviolet light to your grow.
If you want American made, Green Sunshine is your only option. HLG is an American brand, but their lights are made in China.
When it comes to customer service, only Green Sunshine is top-notch. HLG is closer to a Chinese brand than an American (though they still do better than most Chinese companies).
For value, it’s either Mars Hydro or Spider Farmer. They’re very similar all around. The primary difference is that Mars uses Epistar chips, while Spider Farmer uses higher quality Samsung chips.
I’d base my decision on which company has fixtures that best fill your grow space, with the edge going toward SF, due to the Samsung diodes.
So, what is the advantage of the all-white plus deep red and IR spectrum?
The white diodes give you light in every wavelength, with the 3000K diodes providing more reddish light and the 5000K providing more blueish.
The deep red and IR light is especially useful during bloom, where it speeds up flowering time a bit and is also said to boost yields.
Light Intensity and Coverage Area:

But this is how the Spider Farmer LED grow lights stack up in terms of the light intensity they provide compared to what you need when you’re growing cannabis, fruit or vegetables.
For a moderate cannabis yield you want a light that emits ~306 uMols (PPFD) of light during an 18 hour vegetative light cycle, or ~463 uMols during a 12 hour flowering light cycle.
If you want to get the most yield from your plants, you’ll need a stronger light emitting ~617 uMols of light during an 18 hour vegetative light cycle, or ~925 uMols during a 12 hour flowering light cycle.
